I am a long time lover of freeware, and try to always keep an eye out for good freeware when I get a chance to spend some time online.
My only misgivings are the proliferation of sites that start off as appearing to be gungho about freeware, and with time lose sight of such and are more worried about filling space on the site(s), and becoming the big traffic magnet.
I don't claim to be a know-it-all about freeware, but I do believe that when sites become more and more junk laden, and by that I mean - they seem to be like writers who are looking to fill a certain number of words to a story/assignment. What is wrong with just sometimes not having loads of new freeware or updates? Or what's wrong with being honest and saying, "I haven't been able to test out alot of freeware (due to whatever commitments)"?
Is it THAT much of a rush to get loads of traffic and be working on deadlines rather than quality?
Don't some webmasters realize the Net is huge and that maybe some of us prefer to visit specific types of sites to obtain certain types of content(s), rather than having a good site become some pathetic conglomeration of 1,001 subjects, which just ends up diluting the main intent of said site?
For example, I myself, like to regularly visit sites that only focus on freeware, and it is so blatantly apparent that some sites are just watering down their contents by adding garbage that isn't freeware, and thereby losing myself and others like me from remaining regular vistors of their site(s).
I am also a realist, and know that a number of sites that originally claimed to be about freeware now are just using freeware as a come on and relying on tapping content from other sites and have forgone even being able to vouche for what they claim is freeware listed/reviewed/promoted on their site(s), and even sprinkling in non-freeware.
So to these sites, I say - Thank You for being egotistical and disrespectful of freeware authors, and we the people that provide you with your coveted traffic. You insult us, and make the Net a rather lame place as you just really don't care about anything more than oogling your stats, getting noteriety for yourself, and serving whoever pays your bills/provides you with revenue.
Do us all a favor, either remove the words freeware from your banners or domain names, or BE HONEST with us.
